Ready to Say Yes

July 06, 2017

by Jennifer Wade, DDS

Three years ago I would have never imagined I would be where I am today. I wrote in a previous blog about the CMDA Dental Residency [+] program I have been a part of for the last three years. I talked about how the Lord brought me to a program that was exactly what I wanted to do in dentistry. July 1 marked the completion of that program for both Elise Rich and me.

We recently celebrated completing the program, and during the celebration Elise and I were asked to say a few words about our experience. While thinking about all the things I wanted to say, what stood out to me the most was how packed full of amazing things the last three years have been.

As a fourth year dental student moving to Memphis, Tennessee, I could have never imagined what all God was going to do with my life by simply saying “yes” to the call to the CMDA [+] program. I have been given a second family here in Memphis with the other people in the program, and then a third after I met and married my husband Isaac, and now we have a family of our own with the birth of our baby girl Mariella this spring. I completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry program. I have been a general dentist at an amazing community clinic, Christ Community Health Services, where they encourage me to pray with and share my faith with patients. I was able to go to Kenya on a dental mission trip and help teach at the Continuing Medical and Dental Education Conference in Greece. I've been mentored and guided by some of the most incredible people who encourage me to be all God created me to be and live my life fully for Him. I've grown deeper in my walk with the Lord, especially in my prayer life and in reading the Bible. I have a better understanding of God's heart for the unreached all over the world and for the coming promise of every tribe, tongue and nation worshiping Him. I could go on and on about how wonderfully I've been blessed.

I'm not writing about this just to say how great my life has been, but to acknowledge how incredible God is in His sovereignty and how great His love is. He knew far better than I did what my life should be and just asked me to say “yes” to a program in Memphis. The Lord's will for my life has far surpassed any of my own hopes and desires in greatness.

This reflection leads me to take the time to thank God for all He has done for me, even though I deserve nothing. It also encourages me to tell others in the face of life decisions to seek the Lord fully, because whatever He has planned for you will be so much grander and fuller than anything you can dream. It also convicts me to realize there are moments in my days when I don't say “yes” to His calling and make myself miss out on what He has planned for me.

If you are wondering where your life is heading or are facing any big decisions, be encouraged to know that whenever you do hear God's call, saying “yes” will change your life for the better.

I will try to daily keep this in mind as my husband and I seek what the next steps for our lives will be. Facing the unknown is a lot less intimidating when we know we are following the great I AM.
