Long-distance Bible Study

About a year ago, a friend of mine asked if we could do a Bible study together. I said sure, but he lives three hours away. After some discussion, we decided to do so using email. It has been one of the most wonderful experiences we have had. This is what we do.
We pick a book of the Bible. I find background material and share it with my friend. I then make a copy of the first chapter and add any comments or questions in blue. Then I send it to my friend. He responds back to me in red. If I have any further comments, I respond in purple.
We go back and forth, usually once or twice, then go on to the next chapter and repeat the same thing until the book is complete.
We try and respond within 24 hours. We also add in prayer requests as needed.
Sometimes questions come up that neither of us can answer and we both do some digging in commentaries. It takes just a few minutes every day.
Anyone else doing this? If so, what are your experiences?
