An Increasingly Breathtaking View

This morning I was reflecting on how much more I can see God’s hand working around me. He is always working in everyone’s lives and is King of the Universe, but my ability to understand and see that hasn’t always been as good as it is now. I’m still not anywhere close to seeing all of what God is doing, and won’t be able to on this side of eternity, but that doesn’t mean my view won’t get better or expand. Just like climbing a mountain and you get increasingly breathtaking views through different parts of the climb. Sometimes it’s just trees and those are beautiful, sometimes it’s rugged and not so pretty and there’s different levels of difficulty throughout, but when you finally get to the summit the glory of seeing all around you with nothing in your way is incredible.

Now I know I’m not the first person to make this comparison, but it’s a good reminder. It’s good to remember where you started and where you are now. Whether that’s remembering how little you knew in dental school and seeing how easy dentistry is for you now, or looking to see how God has grown you into a different person than you were a few years, months, maybe even weeks ago. He’s always drawing us to Himself, whether that’s moving us forward or just getting us back on the path.

So take a second to think about where you are. How have things been on your journey? Have you seen an amazing view recently? Have you had a hard time maneuvering around the obstacles in life? Maybe you’ve wandered off course. Wherever you are, stop and thank God for the journey, no matter how you feel about it, and cry out to Him asking Him to lead you in the way you should go. For those who are in a season of rejoicing in the good view, write down how beautiful the things are that God is working in your life, so when times of trouble come you can remember what God did and what He will do in the future. For those who are in a hard place, write down what has been hard and how you are insufficient to go forward on your own, so when you finally come across a beautiful scene you can thank God for bringing you there, whether that was Him giving you the strength to take one step at a time or Him carrying you.

God loves us so much and wants us to see His hand in our lives every day, with our family, with our patients, with our friends, with strangers and in our relationship with Him. Praise God for the climb!
