TCMDA - Healthcare Burnout
Start Date: 08:30 AM, 02/10/2018
End Date: 02:30 PM, 02/10/2018
State: North Carolina
Burnout among healthcare professionals has become a worldwide phenomenon, with hundreds of journal and other articles published on the subject in the last few years. The issue cuts across all levels of practice: physicians, dentists, pharmacists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and other Advanced Practice Providers. The reasons for the growth of interest in burnout is two-fold: the practice of healthcare is undergoing tremendous change impacting provider environments and sense of purpose, and, the adverse ramifications of burnout affect not only practitioners, but peers, patients, and healthcare systems and payers.
This program is designed to help practitioners recognize the symptoms and impacts of burnout, overcome it in their own life or those they work with, and design and implement strategies to reduce its impact in their workplace going forward. First will be a review of current research on the subject. Second will be an examination of the changing world views surrounding healthcare which helps to explain new stresses. Third, presenters will elaborate on ways people experience and cope with burnout, and develop resilience. Fourth, strategies will be shared identifying ways to reduce burnout-inducing environmental factors in the workplace.
