Northeast Ohio CMDA Celebration 2018
Start Date: 06:00 PM, 04/14/2018
End Date: 09:00 PM, 04/14/2018
Our goal for the annual Celebration banquet is to celebrate the mighty works of God in our lives, jobs and ministries- specifically as He has worked in Northeast Ohio's medical environment. We will be sharing stories about God's faithfulness and giving glory to Him for things that He has done.
I am excited to invite you to join us for this year's Celebration Banquet. God has been good in an abundance of ways- what a great opportunity to give Him glory. This year, we have two interesting speakers to hear from:
Rajini Poth, PhD is currently an Assistant Professor at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) as well as a busy wife and mom of three. In the midst of climbing, in some sense, the academic ladder, Rajini suffered a stroke in her car while driving to work in 2016. Although Dr. Poth has recovered most of her neurological function, she is still learning what God is teaching her through this difficult journey. Join us as she shares some insights she has learned during this challenging medical journey through the eyes of a patient and healthcare provider.
I'm excited that Michael Forbes, MD, FAAP will be our keynote speaker this year. Dr. Forbes is the Director of Clinical Research & Outcomes Analysis of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Akron Children's Hospital as well as a pediatric Intensivist. As I've gotten to know Mike and his lovely wife, Dr. Yolanda Forbes (also a pediatrician at Akron Children's Hospital) over the years, I've been blessed by his love for Jesus and the thoughtfulness with which he has addressed issues of race and poverty. In this politically charged climate where frequently it is the loudest and most brazen voices that are heard and given the most media time, I have found his perspective refreshing. Mike was born in the inner city and has experienced some of what it means to be a man of color trying to make a life for himself. By God's grace, Dr. Forbes has found himself in positions of influence both within his hospital and in the academic world.
I have asked Mike to speak on the issues of racial/economic disparity for patients found within the healthcare world. This has been well documented in the literature, but if there is any question, we will be see more evidence during Mike's talk. The question I have asked Mike to elaborate upon is this: What should the BIBLICAL and GOSPEL-CENTRIC response of the Christian to issues of racism, injustice and poverty? My heart for our ministry is that we would be able to cut through the cloud of partisan politics that has so disunited our country, and frankly the church. Our hope is that we allow the Word of GOD to define for us how our hearts should view things and the actions that we can take in response to God's calling on our lives.
In a little bit of a departure, after a brief talk, Dr. Forbes will be taking questions from the audience. At the end of this registration form below, please feel free to submit a question, that will remain anonymous. We'd love for this to be a thoughtful Holy Spirit filled conversation so that each of us would leave changed to become a little more like Jesus. We want His heart, His priorities, His love for others, and desire to fulfill His Great Commission to make disciples to the ends of the earth.
Of course, we will be enjoying a delicious meal, as well as having worship & fellowship together. In addition, we will spend time celebrating, honoring and commissioning our graduating medical students, residents and fellows. Please invite any that you know!
