About Us
The Psychiatry Section, a ministry of CMDA, offers a forum for the interface of psychiatric practice and the Christian faith.
OUR STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND BELIEFS
- Promoting fellowship and providing community to support and encourage Christian physicians in the practice of psychiatry, as they explore the relationship between their faith and professional practice.
- To promote within the church the knowledge and understanding of valid psychiatric approaches to mental health and healing, consistent with Christ’s redemptive love.
- Contributing to the ministry of CMDA through participation, mentorship, prayer and sharing of our specific gifts and expertise.
- Joining in the ministry of Christian missions.
- Presenting a positive witness of God our Father, and Jesus Christ our Savior, and the work of the Holy Spirit to colleagues, patients and society.
OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH
(While each of us holds fast to additional beliefs important to our relationship with God, the following statement outlines the tenets that provide a foundation for our fellowship and participation in the Christian Medical & Dental Associations.)
I believe in the:
- Divine inspiration and final authority of the Bible as the Word of God;
- Eternal God revealed in Holy Scripture as Father, Son and Holy Spirit;
- Unique Deity of Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, whose death and resurrection provide by grace through faith the only means of my salvation;
- Transforming presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

We publish a newsletter three times per year and special updates more frequently
Current Issues in Psychiatry:
We sponsor a forum for discussion and comment on current and emerging issues within the practice of psychiatry
Christianity and Psychiatry Interface (CPI) Webinars:
In this series we examine a topic that engages the intersection of faith and the practice of psychiatry with the hope that it will challenge us to be better psychiatrists and more faithful followers of Christ.
Meetings and Conferences:
Attending members and interested individuals gather at professional meetings and conferences (APA, AACAP, GMHC, CMDA NatCon, and others) where we host focused forums at breakfasts and banquets. Special conferences designed for professional and general audiences are also hosted.
Career guidance and Coaching:
To healthcare professionals, residents and students - opportunities for new and seasoned professionals to encourage and assist each other
Domestic and International Healthcare Mission Trip Opportunities:

Our membership includes private practitioners, academicians, researchers, psychiatric health care professionals, mission field psychiatrists, medical students and physicians in residency training from every region of the United States and many other countries as well.

Psychiatry Section Activities at 2024 CMDA National Convention
If you are seeking to Renew, Refresh and Revive your walk with Christ as well as have the opportunity to be professionally challenged, join us at the CMDA National Convention in Asheville / Black Mountain, NC. This conference is the premier convention for the entire spectrum of Christian healthcare professionals! This convention provides great opportunities for you to transform as you fellowship with Christian healthcare professionals, learn about current health and social issues, renew your faith through worship and network with exhibiting organizations. The convention is focused on Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Dentists, Optometrists, Nurses, Dental Hygienists, Physician Assistants, Administrators and Office Staff, Residents, Students, all other healthcare professionals, and spouses of all healthcare professionals. It is a GREAT place to relax while receiving CME training.
Join us near Asheville, North Carolina for a gathering of hundreds of Christian healthcare professionals from all over the country and the world! Asheville is a city in western North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s known for a vibrant arts scene and historic architecture, including the dome-topped Basilica of Saint Lawrence. The vast 19th-century Biltmore estate displays artwork by masters like Renoir. The Downtown Art District is filled with galleries and museums, and in the nearby River Arts District, former factory buildings house artists’ studios. Come a day early, bring your spouse and fellowship across the spectrum of health care professionals.
The Psychiatry Section is:
- Sponsoring a three-session track on Saturday afternoon
- Exhibiting as a Section Booth 45 throughout the convention
- Hosting a dinner on Friday evening for mental health related fellowship opportunities.
- Sponsoring a resident to attend the convention

Confronting Addiction from Prevention to Recovery
The CMDA Psychiatry Section will host Booth Number 747 (NOTE THIS IS A CHANGE) in the exhibit hall. We will sponsor a Saturday evening meet and greet, coordination for church on Sunday morning, an evening banquet and breakfast meetings for fellowship and encouragement.
CMDA Psychiatry Section opportunities for fellowship and learning at APA include:
- Meeting at our Psychiatry Section exhibit booth Number 747.
- Saturday Evening Meet and Greet at local restaurant (Meet in Hotel Lobby at 6:30pm) and walk to restaurant
- Sunday Morning Fellowship and Church Attendance at Redeemer Church. Meet in Hotel Lobby at 9:30am. Uber to Lincoln Square (2 W. 64th St). Service Starts at 10:30
- Monday Evening, 6:30pm – 9:30pm: Dinner / Reception and Program in Hotel Meeting Room
- Monday and Tuesday mornings from 7:00am - 8:15am: Breakfast in Hotel Lobby and Program in Hotel Meeting Room. Program and Case Studies.
