Trip Details:  This location should be a very interesting place to work.  It is located in a very remote region of northeastern Nicaragua.  GHO teams have served in this general area in the past, but Suina is hours away on a bumpy dirt road from a town called Rio Blanco which was our base of operations this past October.  Because of its location, we will be flying to Suina from Managua on Costena, the regional airline of Nicaragua.  What could be a 10 hour bus ride converts to an hour's flight in a small airplane.

Suina was once a prosperous town for the exploration of gold.  It is referred to as the headquarters for what's known as the "mining triangle" of Nicaragua.  Unfortunately, like many places, it's glory days are long passed and it is no longer thriving.  Poverty is rampant and as few as 20% of the children in the area attend school regularly.  The closest hospital is a half days drive, and the only public medical care is provided by a small health center.

Our October trip was to a town called Wanawas, outside of Rio Blanco, which is also in the general direction of Suina.  We were privileged to treat lots of sick patients who live in very difficult circumstances.  Many reached our clinics by walking for hours, or riding horses.  The travel and work was hard, but we were consistently encouraged with the degree of support that we received from a group of committed pastors who work diligently to spread the good news Christ's love for all people.  It was from a leader in this group of pastors that we were encouraged to plan a mission to Suina.

We will spend a night upon arrival and our last night in Managua.  A "basic" hotel will provide accommodation during our time in Suina.

This trip will be to provide basic medical, dental, and optical care.  We also plan to hold a conference with the local pastors to share and learn from each other.  Heath-care providers and support persons are needed to accomplish the task.  Please consider joining with us.

Vaccination Information: Wondering what immunizations you’ll need for the mission trip? Please refer to the Centers for Disease Control website.
