Moldova is a beautiful country with wonderful people but in desperate times. It is the poorest country in all of Europe. There is great need and the people feel forgotten. After decades of communist oppression and the removal of God, the culture and the people of Moldova have been left “weightless, hollow and empty, living in silent agony” as a missionary friend once told me. As one Moldovan man was heard to say, “God and the world have forgotten Moldova”. That may be true for the world but God has not forgotten Moldova! GHO in partnership with World Team missionaries Richard and Jennifer Sanders continues to reach out to Moldova with the incomparable love of Christ! I first served in Moldova as a team member in 2005 and have been leading teams there since 2008. I love Moldova, its people and its culture. It is truly “front-line” evangelism with only 1% of its population being Christian!
Moldova is an incredible mission opportunity as the team works closely with Richard and Jennifer to empower and encourage the local pastor or church planter. We will serve in 2 to 3 small villages as determined by Richard. These villages will typically have a population of only 2000 to less than 10,000 people and are very poor, rural farming communities nestled in the gorgeous and fertile hills which characterizes Moldova!
There are two unique aspects of this mission that make it very special. Due to the isolation of these villages, we will actually live in the homes of some of the villagers for the 3 days or so that we remain in each village. Often, the hosts are not Christians and this makes for a wonderful opportunity to witness God’s love to them! This also provides an incredible opportunity to experience the culture of Moldova up close and personal! There usually is no running water and electricity may be hit or miss. Very primitive outhouses predominate adding a special touch to the entire mission. The host families are gracious and loving and the host churches provide wonderful Moldovan food! In addition, each team member will have a translator assigned to them and they stay together 24/7 which provides a unique opportunity to bond closely with them individually and as a team. The translators participate in every team activity to include meals, devotions and praise and worship! Some of my richest mission memories have resulted from this special closeness. These translators are awesome young Moldovan people, usually university students or recent graduates with a love for their country and people. Most but not all are Christians. I can promise that you will grow to love them dearly!
The clinic is held in the village wherever it can best be accommodated be it a schoolhouse, church or civic building. The medical needs are great as there is very little if any medical care available in these isolated towns. Dental care in particular is in desperate need! On an average day we will see 300 – 350 patients.
Every patient will hear the Gospel in a vibrant and potentially life-changing way and each team member will be an intimate part of this ministry as we serve and love each person with the love of Christ. The people of Moldova, especially the young people, are hungry for the Good News of Jesus Christ.

If you are ready to experience a completely different culture in a desperately poor country while putting flesh to the Gospel to a people in great need physically and spiritually, then Moldova is the mission for you! I promise this will be a mission that God will use in amazing ways for His honor and glory as He works in and through the team and you. If this excites you and you are ready for a great adventure then my prayer is that you will accept this extraordinary invitation that God is offering! The only requirement to be on this team is a servant – heart.
