Trip Details:  This was a new site for GHO with our first trip going in April 2011.  This trip will be in conjunction with BMDMI (Baptist Medical & Dental Missions International).  BMDMI assumed administration of the Guaimaca Hospital in January 2010.  Many improvements have been made to the hospital since January 2010.

This trip will have both surgical and primary care medicine and dentistry components, and is an excellent opportunity for medical and dental students, undergraduate university students, and other family members to serve and explore their call from our Lord.

This hospital has a 24/7 emergency room, lab, x-ray, two operating rooms, two 6-bed wards, one recovery room and one delivery room that functions as a third OR for minor procedures.

There are several villages nearby where primary care teams will meet medical, dental and spiritual needs of the residents.  We would like to host an eye clinic as well.

Sleeping accommodations are located in an adjacent building that also houses the dining hall.  A third nearby building has children facilities for a VBS type activity when children return from their school day.

We arrive at noon in Tegucigalpa March 24. After lunch at Pizza Hut, we will travel by bus to the Guaimaca Hospital for a tour.  Sunday morning we will attend services in the local church.  Sunday afternoon we will triage surgical patients and do preparatory work for setting up our pharmacy.  We will have devotions and testimony times every morning and debriefing sessions each evening.

We will operate and see patients on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Friday we will travel to the Valley of Angels for shopping.  Later that day we will visit Good Shepherd Children's Home to love on the orphan children.  Friday night we debrief, play games, and pack at the BMDMI facility near Tegucigalpa.

Vaccination Information: Wondering what immunizations you’ll need for the mission trip? Please refer to the Centers for Disease Control website.
