Trip Details: We will be working with Pastor Tomas Martinez and Oasis Ministries. Oasis Ministries is truly one of GHO’s most outstanding host churches. The Oasis Ministries church will be joining hands with us to touch hearts through our medical outreach. They will provide the GHO team with "born again" translators so that we can share our faith while sharing our medical skills. We want everyone we meet to be introduced to the "Great Physician," the only one who can heal our wounds and diseases.
We work with the Oasis Church in Santo Domingo, DR. They are an outstanding church that sends out missionaries and plants churches in Latin America. They have hosted GHO teams in the summer for a number of years, led by Ron Brown. They have a heart for prisoners and so last year Ron & I led the first team to La Victoria Prison on the outskirts of Santa Domingo.
What we found there was very much a surprise for all of us. We were actually supposed to go to a different prison, but some change in administration caused us to change to La Victoria. It was all God’s doing! The prison officials and the prisoners were great to work with and a total blessing. Who would have guessed that by Friday we would be singing and praising God with a few hundred men and some women officials inside a prison?
We will see most of the common medical conditions we see on other teams, but there are a few special things. The most common is the removal of bullets that are just under the skin that we remove with local anesthetic! There is a strong work of evangelism through our interpreters. I saw several men being prayed for in triage, exam rooms, dentistry and even while being fitted for eye glasses. It is a joy to see the Lord work in this way.
Let me know if you need more information. Email: bcoulter@eoni.com Please prayerfully consider joining us in this work!!
