Trip Details:  The community where we will be working is called Julio Buitrago.  It is located along the Rama River heading east past the town of El Rama in the department of Atlantico Sur.  This ministry site was recommended to us by a missionary, Robert Sequeira.  It is a big area where very few Christians are willing to go and serve. The local school has 4 classrooms in which we will be working during day light and sleeping at night. The local church is going to have worship service every night from 6 to 8 p.m.  This will be a great encouragement to the pastor and churches as we attend the service and participate in the worship each night if possible.

Team members will need to bring your flashlights, (extra batteries) or any kind of battery powered lamps, as there is no electricity.  Some days we may have rain, so it will be good if you can bring a poncho as well as rubber or hiking boots to deal with the mud.

We need to lay a foundation of prayer, as the local leaders shared with us that in these communities there is a significant influence from the practice of witchcraft. We want to be used by our Lord to be the light of Jesus for those people who are lost in darkness. We need to prepare our hearts and minds for this special mission trip. God’s word teaches us that in the name of Jesus, we have already overcome the evil one.

The most common diseases in these communities are diarrhea, flu, skin fungus, anemia, vaginal infection, allergic diseases, respiratory diseases, and a serious need for dental extractions.

It was a great experience for Rolando, our GHO Nicaragua Director, to visit this new location for GHO to serve.

Vaccination Information: Wondering what immunizations you’ll need for the mission trip? Please refer to the Centers for Disease Control website.
