Trip Details: In the center of Mexico’s
Yucatan peninsula is the beautiful 16th century colonial city of
Valladolid. With a population of 50,000, Valladolid is a relatively
modern city, surrounded by Mayan Indian villages with some of
Mexico’s neediest and underserved people. It is to these people
that our team will seek to minister and offer basic medical and dental
care – but more importantly, we will share with them the message
of God’s love! Living in one room pole huts with thatch roofs, no
plumbing, in adjunct poverty with little hope for improvement, these
families, while most needy, are among the most appreciative to those who
come and offer help.
From Cancun we will take a 2-3 hour car ride to Valladolid, where we
will be staying at the Hotel Zaci. All rooms are air-conditioned and
provide private baths. Sunday morning will be a time for worship and
preparation of the pharmacy. That afternoon, the team will visit
Chichen-Itza, the most famous site and most visited Mayan ruin on the
peninsula (an internet search will provide fascinating pictures and
information on these ancient ruins). The next 4 and a half days will be
spent in intensive ministry to the surrounding villages, with health
clinics made available to the people. Roberto Rodriquez, MD (surgeon and
former CMDA Mexico President) will accompany us, along with translators
and local pastors. We will leave the hotel around 7:30 AM and return by
6:00 PM. Plenty of safe food and water will be provided, with an
excellent breakfast and evening meal near the hotel.
The medical portion of our trip will conclude Friday afternoon, after
which we will travel back to Cancun for two nights and one full day at
the all inclusive Tucan Cun Beach resort and villa. This final portion
of our trip will provide us with some much needed rest and relaxation,
along with a time for de-briefing, before our departure Sunday
morning.
“This will be my seventh visit to Valladolid and I would
be thrilled to have you join me. Three years ago, at one of our clinics,
an older couple came by for health care. As we visited, I asked if they
were Christians. ‘Yes,’ came the excited reply, ‘we
became Christians last year when you were here!’ What a thrill to
know that our ministry is reaping eternal benefits. Please join me in
praying for God’s blessing on this year’s outreach. If you
have questions or need more information, I welcome you contacting
me.” Douglas Hornok
