Trip Details: Haiti is a country in the West Indies
approximately one hour and forty-five minutes flying time from
Miami. It covers the western third of the island of Hispaniola,
which lies between Cuba and Puerto Rico in the Caribbean Sea. Most of
Haiti is mountainous. It is the oldest black republic in the
world, and one of the most densely populated and considered by many to
be the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Most Haitians
are farmers who raise food mainly for their families. The country
has a shortage of hospitals and doctors. Because of poor diet and
medical care the average life expectancy in Haiti is only about 50
years.
After being hit by two tropical storms and two hurricanes
this past summer, Haiti is in dire need at this time for medical teams
to assist. There are extreme food shortages and the medical needs
are enormous especially considering the shortage of hospitals and
doctors.
Spiritually however, exciting things are happening in Haiti.
The gospel is spreading rapidly and in the last ten years the
evangelical population has grown from 5% to 12% in spite of Voodoo.
St. Marc is located about 40 miles north of Port-au-Prince along the
coastal plain and is accessible by vehicle from Port-au-Prince.
Previous teams have worked at the local hospital during the day.
This trip will not be much different. The teams going to Haiti
always stay at hotels with two to a room accommodations, private baths,
showers, and air conditioning...needed accommodations after a hot day of
serving the Lord!
This team will fly from Miami into Port-au-Prince on Saturday and
stay at the Confraternite of Missionary Baptists of Haiti's guest house
overnight. On Sunday morning the team will travel to St. Marc and
spend the remainder of the day checking into the hotel and setting up
the clinic. Patients will be seen Monday through Friday with
evangelistic meetings in the evening. Team members may elect to
stay at the hotel in the evening but are encouraged to attend the
evangelistic meetings at least once and, if desired, give testimonies,
sing specials, or just witness how Haitians conduct their
services. Saturday will be a day of shopping for souvenirs and
sightseeing before returning to Miami on Sunday morning.
Our in-country partner is the Confraternite of Missionary Baptists of
Haiti known as the CMBH. Formed in 1995, the CMBH now has
approximately 700 churches located throughtout Haiti and is the largest
evangelical organization in the country. Haiti is an exciting
country undergoing many wonderful spiritual changes. The CMBH is
responsible for arranging all transportation, translators, safety
issues, etc. and is very proactive as our in-country hosts.
Roger Boehm, the team leader, has been doing short-term mission work
in Haiti since 1979 and is very familiar with the culture and people of
Haiti. He has worked throughout the country and has trained Haitian
pastors in dealing with spirit issues connected with individuals
renouncing Voodoo and embracing Christianity. He is well equipped
to lead the team.
Join this team and work among the poorest of the world's poor.
You will find the Haitians love Americans and will be very appreciative
of the skills you share.
Vaccination Information: Wondering what
immunizations you’ll need for the mission trip? Please refer to
