Further Details: The medical and spiritual
outreach to southeastern Ghana near the Togo border and the Gulf of
Guinea looks to be a marvelous opportunity to assist hundreds of
impoverished and pagan Ghanaians in their lives. We will partner
with Ghana Christian Mission and Agave Christian Union in this
work. Many people along the Togo border portions of Ghana are idol
worshippers and have strong fetish beliefs. There is a huge need
for medical care in our catchment area.
The Agave Christian Union is formed of 20-25 churches from across the
spectrum of Christianity in the Sogakope District. Included
in this group are Catholics, Presbyterians, Baptists, Mennonites,
Assembly of God, African Revelation Society, the independent Christian
Church and some others. These Christians provide
translators, support personnel and evangelists as we lead a five-day
clinic at this rural village. It is about 35 miles to the west and
north of Sogakope where the "road ends".
Dr. Dwain Illman and his wife Marilyn will lead the team. Dr.
Illman is a retired emergency physician after 30 years in the emergency
department. His wife is a retired school teacher. Both lived
for three years in Zimbabwe serving as medical director and teacher at a
mission hospital and school. They have been involved in many
medical trips to Africa, Latin America, Asia, and to Ghana six
times.
The Ghana Christian Mission consists of a group of men and
women committed to the teachings of Jesus. They provide much of
the logistics and local organization through Enoch Nyador, director and
Raphael Gunu, facilitator.
We need people to deliver primary care, nurses, pharmacist, physical
therapist, dentists and a half dozen logistic personnel. We
need to limit the team to 15 people. Dr. Illman can be contacted
at: DwainDoc@gmail.com.
The flexible (emphasis on flexible) plan is to fly the Delta nonstop
flight from JFK to Accra Thursday evening the 29th of July and return on
the morning flight Saturday, the 7th of August. With connection
difficulties, several will not arrive home until the 8th of
August.
Please prayerfully consider this opportunity!
