"Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others."  I Peter 4:10

This verse has become my personal mission statement.  I retired from nearly 30 years practicing emergency medicine in Bloomington, Indiana at the end of 2003 and have made my goal to serve on a medical outreach two or three times a year.  My gifts are in healing with compassion and teaching.  Both of these are beneficial on GHO trips.

I started life in Quincy, Illinois.  After high school I attended and graduated from Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, Illinois.  Medical school was the University of Illinois Abraham Lincoln College of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois.  Post graduate training was done at Baylor University Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

After training, my wife Marilyn and I took our daughters Julia and Christine to Rhodesia (Zimbabwe now) where I served as medical director of Mashoko Christian Hospital.  This is a 120 bed hospital in the rural area that had 50,000 outpatient visits a year and 1400 deliveries.  We both did  a lot of teaching while there and I preached nearly every Sunday.  The war for African independence led to our leaving after 3 years.

We returned to Bloomington, Indiana and partnered with 4 other doctors who had served in Zimbabwe.  Our son was born shortly after returning the States.

I really enjoyed and grew as an ER doc but my passion was in missions and travel.  We have returned to Zimbabwe 5 times to work from 1-3 months.

Seven times we have worked in Ecuador at either Riobamba or San Rafael.  Three times we have gone to Ghana to work with Ghana Christian Mission.  My one trip to Ethiopia was challenging and rewarding.  This was my only time to work with Dr. Sam.  We did an MEI to Kenya and served once in Haiti.  In 2008, I am working in India as well as El Salvador and Ghana.  God is so good!
I joined CMDA as a freshman medical student in 1966 and have maintained my membership for 42 years.

For as many years as God gives us,  Marilyn and I want to continue our ministry of healthcare, evangelism and public health teaching. As Peter also says:  "if anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides."
