CMDA Northeast Region Report

I want to take this opportunity to share with you the annual report I presented to CMDA members during our regional breakfast at the recent CMDA national meeting (save the date for next year!—April 29-May 2, 2009).

 

God has been doing some amazing things this year to grow His community within the greater healthcare community! God has been working—in response to many prayers—to create or recreate—His community in our region:

 

Pittsburgh: For years a staff person focusing on medical and dental students has been supported by a local partner ministry @ the University of Pittsburgh. Recently this staff person in concert with a key local physician has been attracting more and more residents, attendings, and fellows to gather together and help each other grow as
followers of Christ in healthcare. In recent months the economic crisis has
removed that ministry position, so the Christians in medicine in Pittsburgh are
stepping up to join God in what he’s doing there!

 

Philadelphia: There is  interest here among health professionals to create an
organized CMDA ministry! A core group of Christian physicians have gathered
together to create a local CMDA council to partner with the Rev. Bryan Stoudt, who has been involved in medical campus ministry in Philadelphia for three years. They are working hard to connect with what God is doing there and sharing a vision of Christian community of Christ-followers at all levels in medicine there.

 

South Jersey: A pediatrician has recently called on CMDA members to pray about how they might join God in what He is doing in that area. This member’s desire is to help grow a group of disciples committed to living out their lives as professionals for Christ.

 

Scranton, PA: A local oncologist is committed to serving the local students at the new medical school and helping create Christian community for all healthcare
professionals there.

 

Our need for faithful partners is even more essential now as our region has expanded to include Western PA, West Virginia and Virginia!
