Dr. Weir is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of
Medicine, and was a Fellow in Hematology and Oncology at the University
of Alabama Birmingham. He is Board certified in Internal Medicine,
Hematology and Oncology and was a partner in a private, teaching
practice in Memphis TN between 1989 and 2005 with an appointment as
Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Tennessee
before he moved to Bristol to work with CMDA. In September 2008, Dr.
Weir returned to an academic position at the University and VA medical
centers in Memphis, as he continues his responsibilities with
CMDA.
Throughout his career, Dr. Weir has acted in many important
leadership roles, including President of the Christian Medical &
Dental Associations. He served as a medical missionary between 1983-1985
at Eku Baptist Hospital in Eku, Nigeria. In addition to his specialties,
Dr. Weir’s areas of interest include the relationship of science
to Christianity in medicine, end-of-life palliative care issues, the
role of faith in the practice of medicine and the development of local
ministries for CMDA. He is the author of two books: When Your Doctor Has
Bad News (Zondervan, 2003) and Practice by the Book (CMDA, 2005). Dr.
Weir’s work has been published in many medical journals and other
publications. He and his wife, Becky now live in Memphis, Tennessee and
have three children.
