I hope you agree with this statement: Any follower of Jesus is a
minister, no matter his or her profession. When I say this I am
thinking of Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, work heartily, as
for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will
receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord
Christ.”
That’s where the idea of our newsletter came from: The Ministry
of Dentistry. I know your life is complex. You trained hard
for a profession that takes care of people. You have a family to
support. You have a staff relying on you. You have to
perform everyday in the unpredictable world of the human mouth.
You try to get people out of pain and talk them into doing the right
thing for their own health. You have tons of overhead and a
business to run. But in my view you are first and foremost a
minister.
As you follow Jesus you are “serving the Lord.” The
purpose of this newsletter is to help you be a servant of the Lord in
the three main arenas of you life. I am talking about your family,
your work, and your service. Isn’t that where you live your
life? There are the spouse, kids, grandkids, and parents. If
you are single, we won’t forget you. There is work, where
you are CEO, CFO, COO, recruiter, accountant, and more. If you
teaching at a dental school you see patients, do research, and impact
lives of students and colleagues. Then there is service, where you
serve poor and needy people, your church, and domestic and foreign
missions trips and careers.
Here in our first edition we are keeping it simple. Steve Cartin
is a dental consultant, and shares his wisdom about life with patients in
these trying economic times. The CMDA national meeting is coming
up in the fall, and we are planning a dynamic dental track that will get you some CE and great
fellowship. And for those of you who are looking to take a short-term
mission trip, we have listed a few options for you to consider.
We welcome your help with this newsletter project. I encourage you
to respond to our efforts with grace and wisdom. We are sticking
our neck out a little with the hope that we produce something that is
unique and encouraging. We want you to feel like you can forward
this newsletter to your peers. I encourage you to send us articles
that we may be able to use in future editions, ideas you would like to
see us pursue, and needs you think we can meet. Our efforts are to
serve you so you can serve Him better.
God Bless,
WG
