Why Become Affiliated with CMDA? Because of the foundational principles that we stand for and also because CMDA is unique in the services that we provide.

 

Why is CMDA unique? Why should we continue to promote CMDA when local churches do discipleship training and missions? Why CMDA and not Intervarsity, Campus Crusade or other student organizations? Why not doctors on their own? I have spent six months trying to sort out this uniqueness. Our doctors want to know. Here are my conclusions.

 

CMDA is:

 

• Experienced: CMDA has been doing focused Christian ministry to doctors for 75 years and have learned to do ministry well over that time.
• Focused: Doctors are unique in their problems, their ministry opportunities and their world view---not totally unique, but enough so that some of their issues need to be addressed in a focused way that is not available in the local church. Doctors typically wear masks when dealing with others that they don’t wear so much among themselves.
• Longitudinal: CMDA is the only student and doctor ministry that seeks to provide a continuum of ministry to carry students through their decision making years into their lives as doctors and into the seasons of change within their lives.
• Specific: Doctors have very special skills that can be transformed into ministry best by focused ministry pathways for Christian doctors. When non medical groups attempt doctor based ministry, they often underutilize those skills. When non Christian medical groups utilize those skills, the Word is left out and the work becomes only temporally effective.
• Resourceful: The resources developed by CMDA are superb in their understanding of the doctor’s life situations. No one else produces such focused and relevant resources.
• Communal: Ministry in community is powerful. When Christian doctors come together for ministry, whether the ministry is to hurting doctors, overseas missions, healthcare for the poor, encouragement and training of students or ethical battles, God does something great that He often does not do when doctors struggle alone to work out His will for their lives.
• Spirit led: The evidence of God’s hand at work through CMDA doctors is overwhelming across our land in community after community. Doctors need to connect our lives where they see God working unless He calls them elsewhere.
• Vocal: In speaking to our society, the voice of a doctor can make a difference and the voice of thousands can not be ignored.
• Reliable: CMDA takes great pains to be scientifically sound in its conclusions while honoring the Bible as our foundation of truth.
