Profile: Banso is a 250 bed hospital and was the
second PAACS Hospital to train residents in General Surgery. This
hospital is approximately 50 years old and is located in a rural
setting. The nearest city is Bamenda, the Provincial capital, with a
population of 300,000 about 25 miles away. The mountainous scenery of
the Bamenda plateau is at around 5,800 ft., offering a beautiful
landscape with a moderate temperature. The hospital also offers a
nursing school within the Baptist Convention system.

Travel: Banso is approximately an 8 ½ hour
drive from Douala or fly SIL plane from Douala.
Location: NW. province of Cameroon
Language: English is spoken in the NW provinces,
with a dialect of Lamso and Pidgin, as well as Fulani.
Climate: A very delightful climate in which the
temperatures range from the high 60’s to low 70’s during the
days. Often a jacket is necessary at night. The dry season is from
October to March and the rainy season is March to October. During the
dry season, the wind, which is known as the Harmaton, blows sand down
from the Sahara Desert and leaves a constant haze in the area and red
sand everywhere.
