Midwest Progress Notes
May / June 2010
In this issue of Midwest Progress Notes I have included my
Annual Report presented at our recent CMDA National Convention
in Asheville, NC (April 29-May 2).
The MW Annual Report does not begin to capture the breadth of
ministry happening in the Midwest Region. We hope the
Quarterly Midwest Progress Notes will help to give you the larger
picture of what our graduate ministries and student chapters are doing
to shine the light of truth in their communities. You can help us
accomplish this by contacting the Midwest Office with updates from your
ministry.
We may serve in the hallways and corridors of hospitals, clinics and
medical and dental schools but it is the Lord that opens doors of
ministry. It is He who multiplies our efforts to bring
about good. Only He can change lives; only He can impress upon a
student the desire to know more about a relationship with Christ; only
He can motivate a proud doctor into seeking help for a failing
marriage. Whatever ministry you see in the pages of my report and
the ministry you don’t see; remember it is our Lord who must be
honored above all else. Otherwise all this means nothing.

—Speaker: Steve Price, MD
36th Annual Student Winter Retreat (North) –
January 17-18
—Michindoh Conference Center – Hillsdale, Michigan
—Topic: If the Foundations Be Destroyed
—Speaker: John Patrick, MD
Student Retreat Comments:
- I was nervous in coming here this weekend because I have been
out of touch with my faith for some time and have not been a good
Christian. However, something compelled me to be here. I
have now been to my first Christian conference and bought my first
Christian text (other than the Bible), and have a renewed strength to
continue to walk in my faith when I go home.
- This was a very Biblically rich conference. I am more and more
impressed with CMDA!
- The conference helped me realize that there are a lot of things
I can do now to spread God's word.
- I feel better equipped to serve in this profession.
MW Fall Conference – October 23-24 – An
annual family get-a-way along the shores of Lake Michigan.
—Maranatha Bible Conference Center – Muskegon, Michigan
—Topic: His Brain / Her Brain – Speakers: Walt (MD) &
Barb Larimore
—CME Category One – 6.0 Hr.
Fall Conference Comments:
- I will now value and consider the differences between men and
women in my practice. It will help
me understand and communicate better with my male and female
patients
- Be in a better position to help couples work through their
differences
- Be more sensitive to my male patient’s need for processing
and transition
- Beautiful location and facility
- I loved this conference

CMDA Single's Ministry
Winter Conference - February 13-20, 2011
We invite you to join a wonderful group of docs (and allied health
professionals) for several events every year. Our flagship event is our
winter conference in Buena Vista, CO where we lodge, eat and meet at
Trailwest, a beautiful Young Life Conference Center. We offer a creative
slate of activities everyday, including dog sledding, downhill skiing,
snow shoeing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, cross country skiing,
hiking, etc.
Our next winter conference takes place Feb 13-20, 2011. Jean Wright,
MD is our speaker. She is so popular among our group that this is her
third time in 15 years. Jean has testified before congress, the Vice
Premier of China and us! her specialty is Pediatric Anesthesia and she
is three board certified. In addition, she has a great sense of humor
and is a glutton for punishment. After all, did I mention that this is
her third trip back to speak to our group?
Jean adopted three girls from China will be bringing them with her.
We hope you will join us for this great week.
CMDA Singles on GHO Mission Trips
Also, we encourage CMDA single members who are doing GHO trips to inform
us when they plan to serve on a GHO team, so that other single
docs who desire to serve together can consider joining the same
team.
Also, from time to time, single docs vacation together as they plan
their own events, again using our network to inform others of their
plans.
We hope you take advantage of the single's network in CMDA to meet
and serve along side other single docs.
